*Last week, you looked at two different types of non-fiction texts, narrative and informational. This week we are going to look at a genre called Hybrid Text that combines narrative and informational text in one book. If you have ever read a Magic School Bus book, you are already an expert.
1. Watch the video I emailed to your parents, it is too big to post here, sorry.
2. Answer the questions on the Padlet, make your background blue please or in your journal; Do you think the events in Scouts life are like those of a real honey bee? Why do you think that? Use examples from the book.
3. Create your own hybrid book. Use Epic to help you find facts about your topic. It does not need to be an animal.
*Make a plan. Use a four-square to help you plan your book. One side for the facts the other side for the story.
*Like in Flight of the Honeybee, use the facts that go with the story. For example, when Scout's sister bees went to look for the blue meadow, we learned that bees need to harvest nectar from more than two million flowers to make enough honey to fill just one jar.
*Need more inspiration or just want to check out some other hybrid texts, go to the Tumblebook Library and watch Bumblebee Queen. Check out your Epic account and read If. Watch Dear Mr. Blueberry here or enjoy the Magic School Bus video about bees here.

Wow! What fun I have had reading your responses on the EMT Padlet. It has been wonderful to be able to connect to you and for you to connect to your classmates, almost like being in our classroom:-) If you haven't had a chance to respond to the Padlet, don't worry, there is still time!
*Get your pens and pencils ready! We will be focusing on writing. I just finished reading and responding to your personal narrative stories. I would like to give you the chance to write about a time in your life of your choice.
*Watch the brainpopjr video here. The username is Flamazing and the password is flamingo1. *Make a list of ideas you could write about.
*Go to Epic and read the book Up at the Lake for another idea to write about.
*Get out your journal and start writing. Need help or want to share ideas? Go to the EMT Padlet and post your questions, concerns, and/or ideas.
*Don't forget your ARMS and CUPS when revising your stories.
*Finished? Feel free to ask a parent to scan and send me your stories or take a photo and post it on the Padlet or email it to me.
