March 31st:
1. What is the difference between an invention and a discovery? Check out the book Inventors and Discoveries on Epic. Read the first two pages and write, in your own words, what is the difference between inventions and discoveries. Then skip around in the book and look at the many different inventions and discoveries that have been made, you don't have to read the whole thing. How do discoveries and inventions work together? Do you think there are new discoveries to made? Be specific.
You can answer on the SS Padlet, make your background green so we can see the different projects, or in your journal.
2. Go to this website for a little blurb about Ingeborg Beling and what she discovered about bees! When we get back to school, you can read the whole page and book about Fantastically Great Women Who Saved the Planet.
3. April 1st is April Fools Day! Have fun reading and telling some jokes from the Epic book Really Silly Jokes!
March 26th: Nature as an Invention Inspiration
*If you haven't had a chance to respond to the Padlet, there is still time!
*Did you know that many inventors were inspired by nature? Watch this video about how nature inspired several inventors.
*Draw an animal that inspired an inventor on a large sheet of paper (at least DIN A4). You can use crayons, marker, watercolors and/or wax crayons. You can also glue something to it or use other materials. Let your imagination run wild!
*Post a photo of your finished artwork on the SS Padlet Let's see if we can guess which invention your animal inspired.
You don't know how to paint the animal?
Here are a few tips:
• If you can, go out in nature, see if you can find an animal and observe closely. What is its physique like? How many legs does it have? What colors does the animal have?
• Take a picture of the animal you want to paint and observe it carefully
• Look on Epic! for a book about your animal that has photos you can look at

March 23rd: Famous Inventions!
1. Log into www.getepic.com/students
2. Use the class code bkt9594 to log-in. Be sure a parent has accepted the email invitation that was sent yesterday.
3. Listen/Read the book Ada Lovelace and Computer Algorithms
4. Respond to the SS Padlet here or in your journal to the following questions:
1. The book states that Ada's ''legacy of ideas helped shape the computers we know today.'' What would you like your legacy to be? What will you do to help you reach your goals?

Inventor Project
* Continue to collect information on your inventor. Remember to use www.ducksters.com or the resources found on the library website:

The inventor pamphlet is below. It might be easier to make it yourself on a piece of paper rather than trying to figure out how to print it double sided, it's a bit tricky. Just be sure your pamphlet has all the information.
*Once your inventor pamphlet is finished, follow the directions on the 'Your Own Invention' page below.
